It’s Uncle’s 60th birthday. The doctor told us that the terminal patient is left with only 3 months. I guess this is my last birthday gift to him.

He is a non-believer when it comes to the Dharma. He said that he did not commit any heinous sins such as killing lives and setting fires. He felt he is not a bad person and nothing much to repent.

I questioned, how about the people you beat up last time? He retorted, then what the beatings he received?

I said to him, “If you did no wrong in your life, why are so many things lacking in your life? As long as there is lack and imperfections in your life, there must be certain aspects of our life that you didn’t do well. “

I told him not to come back to this human realm anymore. There is suffering everywhere, and nothing to gain in the end. He repeated my words, as if he understood.

My Uncle’s wife told me that he was angered by what the doctor told him and vented his anger on her. He tore down his oxygen tube and stormed off in a fury. Generally speaking, no matter how fierce some clients may be, I have never been afraid. However, during explanation of the Dharma to my Uncle, my words were hesitant and not as free flowing compared to talking to my clients.

However, he told me today that he had been having dreams at night recently, and he remembered what I told him, that he should not follow those deceased relatives and friends in his dreams.

I spent a few months trying before he is willing to chant the Buddha’s Name.

I told him, using his handphone to listen to Buddhist songs generates no merits because he wasn’t the one reciting and repenting. It is only a form of mental consolation. To eradicate negative karma and increase your good fortune, you have to recite it and put in your heart to repent.

When I gifted him the Dharma picture of Grandmaster, I reminded him, if he sees the King of Hades upon his death, and is asked what virtuous deed he did when he was alive, he must remember to tell the King of Hades that he took refuge in Living Buddha Lian-Sheng willingly during his dying days. That is the greatest virtuous deed he had ever done in this lifetime.

Later on, Uncle told me that his doctor asked if he was willing to use his medical condition for housemen training, Uncle said ok. He said they would give him a red packet after it was over. I guess, if the motive behind it is pure, participation in medical practices to help fellow humans is indeed virtuous too.

Every birthday of ours signifies that we have one year less in this mortal world. Every day that passes is a reminder that we are inching closer and closer to our death day. How well prepared are you for your own Death? When you have to throw away this smelly skin bag, are you already affirmative on where you are heading to? Or do you still naively think that all life ends when we die?

It doesn’t matter now how much my uncle really believes. Every bit counts. The Dharma power of Grandmaster is boundless, and I will also strive on in the recitation of the High King Sutra. All these in hope that merits generated will eradicate his sufferings of birth and death, and rid him of all afflictions, greed, hatred and ignorance.
