At my age, being able to have three generations under one roof is extremely precious.

In my maternal family, we have eight granddaughters and one grandson. Haha, we are definitely a family dominated by females.

From a young age, the elder women around me were all very capable. Each of them could handle kitchen duties, social gatherings, business, earning money, doing household chores, and taking care of children. When I was young, my parents were busy with work, so I either stayed at my grandmother’s house, playing and having meals with my cousins, or accompanied relatives playing mahjong, while I served tea and water and watched the game.

I am grateful to the elder women in my family for teaching me so much by example.

Those women of that era were all representatives of hard work. They experienced many failures and difficulties in life, but they persevered, leaving countless stories and wisdom for us younger generations to learn from.

Let’s salute them!

No matter how hard life is, sitting down together for a meal, chatting in Cantonese about daily life, it feels like we’ve never grown up.

May every child have the love and care of grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and godmothers, and may we grown-up children continue to have the companionship of grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and godmothers.

Happy International Women’s Day, sisters! May everyone feel the warmth and love of family on this day, and I hope every woman shines brightly in both family and career, living a strong and beautiful life.
